The Global Environment Facility's International Waters Learning Exchange and Resource Network (GEF/IW:LEARN) and the ADB Knowledge Management project are co-sponsoring the Knowledge Management Learning Exchange among ADB & GEF funded projects in the Coral Triangle. This activity is a step to respond to the following communication challenges:

  • There is a huge gap within the National Coordinating Committees (NCCs) and at the regional level on how to harness communication and knowledge management to strengthen coordination. NCCs need more capacity building (through coaching, mentoring, and other activities) so they can maximize available knowledge resources and use it for the good of the CTI.
  • The draft communication strategy prepared by the Australian government highlighted the importance of building the communication capacity of focal persons in the National Coordinating Committees (NCCs) so they can better support the Regional Secretariat.
  • Participants of the 6th GEF Biennial International Waters Conference in Dubrovnik, Croatia in October 2011 raised the urgent need to capitalize on the network, activities, and processes that have been developed within GEF-funded projects. When teams learn from each others' experience, they mutually increase their capacity to better protect shared resources and sustainably manage transboundary water system. Project implementers and managers were strongly encouraged to go beyond the traditional means of sharing knowledge so that stakeholders can benefit more from science.

At the end of the workshop, participants will:

  1. Understand the principles of communication and knowledge management and how to use it for strategic planning / organizational learning in the context of the CTI;
  2. Share learning and insights with other teams on effective knowledge sharing strategies and collaboration tools / mechanisms
  3. Test and use the GEF/IW LEARN's Community Platform for the Community of Practice (COP)

Dr. Serafin Talisayon, who is known as the "Father of KM in the Philippines" and Director for Research and Development, Center for Conscious Living Foundation  (CCLFI) Philippines will serve as main resource person for this event.
